Affiliate League
Rulebook
How the season runs, who can compete, and how the points are worked out.
1Introduction
- The Affiliate League is a season-long functional fitness competition series bringing together a range of functional fitness methodologies and affiliates across the South East of England.
- Teams compete across four events throughout the season, with cumulative scores determining the overall league champion.
2Season Structure
- 4 Competitions: the season consists of 4 competitions, each hosted at a different flagship affiliate across the South East of England.
- 4 Workouts per event: each competition features 4 workouts, contested on the day.
- 16 Workouts per season: across the full season, this totals 16 workouts.
- Points earned at each competition contribute to an affiliate's overall league score.
3Eligibility & Membership
- Only existing members of a participating affiliate are eligible to compete.
- Athletes must be registered with their affiliate before the season's first competition; late registrations may be accepted at the league's discretion ahead of a given event.
- Athletes may only represent one affiliate per season.
- Membership must remain active and in good standing for continued eligibility across the season.
4Team Composition
- Team size: each team consists of 4 athletes: 2 female and 2 male.
- All 4 athletes must be current paying members of the affiliate they represent.
- Teams are placed into one of three athlete pools based on ability:
- RX
- Intermediate
- Scaled
- Pool allocation deadline: prior to the season's commencement, all affiliates are required to allocate their athletes to athlete category pools (RX, Intermediate, or Scaled). This allocation must be submitted to the Affiliate League team no later than 30 days prior to the first competition of the season.
- Team confirmation deadline: all teams must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to each event.
- Teams are locked per event: once a team is selected for an event, it is locked in for all 4 workouts at that event, and athletes cannot be swapped in or out between workouts.
- An affiliate is required to enter a minimum of one team per category per competition.
- Substitutions within a team must be from the same affiliate and same pool, and must be confirmed with event organisers before the competition begins.
- Whilst athlete allocated is ultimately at the affiliate’s discretion, the Affiliate League reserves the right to recategorise athletes that are deemed to be intentionally misallocated. (e.g. If an Intermediate athlete has recently qualified for the CrossFit quarterfinals, they will be recategorised into the RX pool).
5Scoring & Pool Weighting
- Each pool contributes to an affiliate's overall league score at a different weighting, reflecting the relative difficulty of the division:
- RX: 50%
- Intermediate: 35%
- Scaled: 15%
- Workout scores within each pool are calculated using standard functional fitness scoring methods (time, reps, load, or a combination as specified per workout) and converted to points based on final placing.
- Multiple teams in the same category: where an affiliate enters multiple teams into the same category, only the highest-placing team's score counts toward that affiliate's score. Scores are not accumulated or averaged across an affiliate's multiple teams.
- An affiliate's total score for a competition is the sum of its weighted pool scores.
- Season standings are the cumulative total of an affiliate's scores across all 4 competitions.
- Tiebreaker: in the event of a tie in the season standings, the tiebreaker will be (a) most first-place finishes across all pools, then (b) head-to-head record at the most recent shared competition.
6Fees
- Nice & simple: athletes each pay an entry fee of £39 per event.
- Payments are due 1 month prior to each event — but don’t worry, we’ll remind you!
7Workouts & Movement Standards
- Each competition features 4 workouts announced in advance or on the day, at the league's discretion.
- All athletes must meet the published movement standard for a rep to count; judges brief all competitors on standards before each workout.
- Scaled and Intermediate workouts may use modified loads, movements, or time domains relative to RX; specifics are published per competition.
- Equipment and workout floor layout are the responsibility of the host flagship affiliate, in coordination with league organisers.
8Judging
- All workouts are officiated by a judging team made up solely of certified judges.
- Judges are briefed on movement standards and workout formats ahead of each competition.
- Each team/athlete is assigned a judge for each workout; judges are responsible for counting reps, calling no-reps, and enforcing time caps. (If disputed, please refer to the appeals process below (section 10).
- Judges may not officiate a team from their own affiliate wherever possible.
9Code of Conduct
- Agreement to the code of conduct: by attending an Affiliate League event, all athletes, coaches, and spectators agree to abide by the code of conduct set out below.
- Athletes, coaches, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves with sportsmanship and respect toward competitors, judges, volunteers, and staff at all times.
- Abusive language or behaviour, unsportsmanlike conduct, or interference with another team's performance will not be tolerated.
- Any form of cheating, including intentionally miscounting reps or misrepresenting a score, will result in disqualification from the event and may result in further sanction from the league.
10Disputes & Appeals
- Any dispute regarding a judging call, score, or standard must be raised by a team captain or affiliate representative to the Head Judge before the next workout begins, or within a time window announced on the day.
- The Head Judge's ruling on an in-competition dispute is final.
- Disputes regarding final placings or season standings must be submitted in writing to league organisers within 48 hours of the competition's conclusion.
- The league reserves the right to review video evidence where available in resolving disputes.
11Safety & Medical
- A first aider or medical contact must be present at every competition.
- Athletes compete at their own risk and are responsible for declaring any injury or condition that may affect their ability to compete safely.
- Judges and event staff have the authority to stop a workout for any athlete or team where there is a visible safety concern.
- Any equipment or floor hazard should be reported to event staff immediately.
12Penalties & Disqualification
- Penalties may include: time penalties, point deductions, or disqualification from a workout or event, depending on severity.
- Grounds for disqualification include: use of banned substances, deliberate breach of the code of conduct, fielding an ineligible athlete, or falsifying scores.
- Disqualification from one competition does not automatically disqualify a team from the remainder of the season, except in cases of serious misconduct, which will be reviewed by league organisers on a case-by-case basis.
13Affiliate Incentives
- Flagship host discount: the flagship affiliate hosting a competition receives a 50% discount on athlete entry fees for that event (e.g. £39 → £19.50 per team).
- Certified judge discount*: the Affiliate League prides itself on accuracy. If you agree to become a judge, we will pay for your accreditation*.
- *Please note that this is a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
- Vendor revenue share: the flagship affiliate hosting an event retains 50% of vendor fees collected at that event.
- Founding affiliate spotlight: the first 10 affiliates to confirm their participation each season will receive dedicated “spotlight” social media coverage from the league, including interviews and short Q&As, to help promote their affiliate to the league community.
14Miscellaneous
- The league reserves the right to amend rules between seasons, with changes communicated to all affiliates ahead of the new season.
- In-season rule changes will only be made in exceptional circumstances and communicated to all affiliates in advance of the relevant competition.
- Any matter not covered by this rulebook will be decided by league organisers, whose decision is final.
